Cuelist Pedal — User Manual
This manual explains how to use the Cuelist pedal, its features, the editor and the updater.
Quick Overview
- Two modes: Performance (default) and Edit.
- Control: single footswitch, 2.8" touchscreen, 5-pin MIDI DIN (unpowered), USB, 9V DC jack.
Modes
Performance Mode (default)
- Active on boot unless Edit mode is requested.
- Shows a teleprompter-style setlist with:
- Song title
- Song sections
- Song number within the setlist
- Progress bar for the current song/section
Edit Mode
- Enter by long-pressing the footswitch during boot or long-pressing the touchscreen for a few seconds.
- The pedal creates its own Wi‑Fi access point (AP). The QR code on the screen encodes the Wi‑Fi credentials so you can join the pedal network quickly.
- The pedal screen also displays the AP SSID and the editor URL/IP. After joining the pedal's Wi‑Fi, open
http://cuelist.localin your browser to reach the editor (mDNS). If mDNS doesn't resolve, use the IP shown on the pedal screen. - Each pedal has a unique ID shown on the screen.
Controls and Gestures
Footswitch
- Single tap: step forward one section (linear progression).
- Fast double-tap: step back one section (undo-like safety feature).
- Long press: skip the current song.
- Long press during boot: enter Edit mode.
All footswitch actions are also available on the touchscreen.
Touchscreen
- Swipe up / down: move within a song's sections.
- Swipe left / right: go to previous / next song.
- Long-press the screen: enter Edit mode.
To exit Edit mode: tap the screen once or tap the footswitch once.
Hardware & Power
- Single footswitch (configured as above).
- 2.8" touchscreen for navigation and editing. -- 5-pin MIDI DIN port: output only (unpowered). Use adapter cables or a powered DIN adapter if you need external power. -- USB: acts as a class-compliant MIDI device to a connected computer (works with DAWs), can power the pedal, and is used by the web updater. -- USB and the 9V DC jack may be connected at the same time — the pedal's power input is protected and will safely switch between sources; concurrent connection will not damage the device. -- 9V DC jack (center negative): compatible with typical pedalboard power supplies; draws less than 500 mA.
Note: Not affiliated with Morningstar — compatibility and integrations depend on your external gear.
Feature Summary
- Inputs: touchscreen, footswitch, USB, MIDI DIN.
- Behaviors: tap, double-tap, long-press on both footswitch and touchscreen.
- Setlists: multiple setlists supported (S01, S02, ... up to 10).
Setlist, Songs and Sections
- A setlist is an ordered list of songs.
- Each song contains up to 30 sections (sections are the step units you advance through).
- Each section can send up to 10 MIDI messages, mixed CC (Control Change) and PC (Program Change).
- Messages may target any of 16 MIDI channels; specify message type, number and value per message.
When advancing a step, the pedal sends the section's configured messages in order.
Editor (Web Interface)
Access
- Enter Edit mode on the pedal (long-press during boot or long-press touchscreen).
- Scan the QR code shown on the pedal to join its Wi‑Fi access point.
- Open a browser and visit
http://cuelist.local.
Alternatively, connect your device to the pedal's network and navigate to the same URL.
Editor Overview
- Master Song Bank: where you store all programmed songs (reusable across setlists).
- Active Setlist: the setlist currently synced to the pedal.
- Multiple Setlists: create and manage up to 10 setlists (S01..S10).
Editor actions:
- Add / edit / delete songs in the master bank.
- Build setlists by selecting songs from the bank.
- Rename setlists.
- Export / import setlists as JSON for backup or sharing.
- Print a setlist (browser print) for stage reference.
- Sync to pedal: pushes the selected setlist to the pedal. Syncing will reboot the pedal and temporarily disconnect the editor.

Song & Section Editor
- Each song: title, optional notes, up to 30 sections.
- Each section: label and up to 10 MIDI messages.
- MIDI message entry: choose message type (CC or PC), number, value, and channel (1–16).
Tips:
- Use the master bank to build a library of commonly used songs.
- When gigging, prefer small, tested setlists — syncing resets the pedal.
Updater (Web Updater)
- Firmware updates are delivered via the web editor's updater page.
-- Update hosting: update binary files (
.bin) will be published on the project's GitHub releases. The editor will present a dropdown of available versions; choose one and run the update. -- To update:- Put the pedal in Edit mode and connect to the web editor.
- Open the Firmware / Updater section.
- Select a version from the dropdown (populated from GitHub releases) and start the update. The device will download and apply the selected
.binpackage and reboot when finished.
Notes:
- USB can be used to power the pedal during updates.
- Update files will be stored on GitHub releases; follow the project's releases page for new versions. The editor's dropdown shows available releases.
Use Cases
- Standalone pedalboard control (send PC/CC to loop switchers or FX units).
- Control DAW plugins via MIDI from USB to a laptop during live sets.
- Work with MIDI-capable multi-FX or loop switchers as the 'brain' to trigger presets and loops.
Limitations and recommendations:
- The DIN 5 port is output-only and not powered. Use powered adapters or external USB host if needed.
- Bluetooth MIDI and powered DIN are planned for future updates.
Future Features (Planned)
- Bluetooth MIDI support.
- Real-time editing via Bluetooth/websocket.
- Powered MIDI DIN port.
- Optional external footswitch with two buttons (forward/back) and long-press actions.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- If
cuelist.localdoesn't resolve, try connecting directly to the pedal's Wi‑Fi and use the IP shown on the QR screen. - If the editor disconnects after syncing, wait for the pedal to reboot and reconnect to its network.
- Practice the footswitch double-tap in a quiet setting — timing matters for reliable back-step detection.
Technical Limits Recap
- Max songs per setlist: fixed at 100.
- Max sections per song: 30.
- Max messages per section: 10 (CC/PC mix), up to 16 channels.
